My mother reminded me often as a child to make my bed right after I got up. It's a simple chore, and it does make a nicer appearance when you walk into someone's bedroom, but since I was basically going to mess it up again in 16 hours, why bother?
I stumbled across this post from 1995, from the BBC:
Researcher Dr Stephen Pretlove said: “We know that mites can only survive by taking in water from the atmosphere using small glands on the outside of their body.
“Something as simple as leaving a bed unmade during the day can remove moisture from the sheets and mattress so the mites will dehydrate and eventually die.”
So in the name of reducing allergens in my home, no more making my bed, ever!
