Updated Tuesday, September 19th, 2000 - 7pm

Sorry this took so long. We've posted photo's from the last Hang Free. Check back later in the week, when we post MP3 DJ sets of the DJ's that spun (Rob Paine, Under, MG, and Raf) as well as put up a listing of winners of the Raffle we held. We raised over $200 to benefit the Japanese Tea House. Many thanks to all that participated, and we appreciate your support!

Rescheduled for this Sunday - Hang Free at the Japanese Tea Garden!

First and foremost, many thanks to all who expressed their condolences due to our last postponement. I've passed them all onto Stacy (it was her grandmother).

Well, we got back on track. This Sunday, September 10th, we'll be setting up at the Japanese Tea Garden in Fairmount Park. I hate to repeat myself, but here goes:

We're using a brand new location that we think is awesome! The Japanese Tea Garden in Fairmount Park is the parks most hidden secret. A lovely garden, it will be open to us & they are co-sponsoring this Hang Free. We will be collecting donations to help support this beautiful location as well as letting us use this part of the park. Directions & a downloadable PDF map are to the right.

Don't forget to check for updates right here at our new web site (Bookmark us now!) Keep checking back, because we'll also post pictures from each event, as well as audio samples (MP3's) from DJ sets, and more!

As for the lineup, we're still finalizing the details, but confirmed is: DJ Rob Paine (doing us a huge favor by cutting his LA trip short so he can make it), MG (always a help with the car) and the ever-present resident DJ Under. As a last minute reminder, this is a WEATHER-PERMITTING EVENT. Currently, the forecast calls for good weather on Sunday, but if it's raining, the rain date will be posted here later.

Check this web site on Sunday, September 10th, 2000 for up-to-the-minute updates, or call Under's voicemail (on Sunday) at 215-888-3069.

We remind you to tell your friends to sign up on the Hang Free Mailing list by entering thier name & email address on our web site!

Peace & see you Sunday!

The next event we're planning for will be on Sunday, August 27th, 2000 - We'll start around 1pm (We never said we'd be prompt or early - it's tough loading up two vehicles, driving out, setting up, and getting it going!)

We'll post a lineup as soon as everyone is confirmed. Thus far, we have confirmed DJ's Dieselboy, Rob Paine, MG and the ever-present resident DJ Under.

Bring Good Friends, Blankets, a Picnic, Good Attitudes, Frisbees & Hackysacks - Don't worry about the Cost - Just Hang Free!

Stay tuned for info forthcoming about the next Hang Free. It'll be Sunday, August 27th, at the Japanese Tea Garden in Fairmount Park. We'll put up more info when we get more details!

Updated Wednesday, July 26th, 2000 - 5pm

Hey all - this is to inform everyone of a couple events coming up. I've linked to more info, so click and go!

It's been a busy summer, and with the proliferation of free outdoor events, it's getting harder and harder to schedule a Hang Free! Oh well - we shouldn't complain - It's all about being free & outdoors, right? Stacy and I promise we'll have one in August (and maybe on Labor Day weekend - we'll see!).

Updated Tuesday, May 30th, 2000 - 5pm

I'm glad everyone came out yesterday. We arrived at our usual location to find it mobbed full of people, including another DJ & sound system playing hip-hop music!

We changed the voicemail, and re-located ourselves to the other end of the field, where we set up and got going under a grove of 6 large trees. Luckily, everyone found us soon enough & another year of Hang Free's had begun.

After a bit of processing and compressing, we have pictures up from yesterday's Hang Free. These are set up so that you can browse them in a slide show format. This makes it much easier to view leisurely, without having to squint at small thumbnails.

As promised, we also have a couple DJ sets for you in MP3 format. First is our good friend MG, from his live DJ set yesterday (57 minutes, 38.9 MP3 File), then everyone probably remembers Chuck Aronson. He offered us a live Ambient set to end the day perfectly (54 minutes, 37MB MP3 File). (Many thanks to Chuck for spinning longer than required!)

Feel free to write each of the DJ's (Don't forget Hollis P. Monroe, and Under) and thank them for their sets, or book them for your next event.

We'll also declare the date of the next Hang Free shortly - expect an email soon, or keep checking back to this site!

Updated Monday, May 29th, 2000 - 11am

We're on for today! We'll be a bit late (as always) but expect us to be up and running by 12:30-1:00. It's not as warm as usual, so bring a sweater and blankets. See you on West River Drive!

Updated Sunday, May 28th, 2000 - 4:30pm

Seems like Mother Nature is on our side. The weather report now says cloudiness, with increasing sunshine. See you Monday!

Updated Thursday, May 25th, 2000 - After Midnight

While the weather report doesn't look good, we're planning for Monday, May 29th, 2000 - We'll start around noon (Seriously - Stacy promised we'd get going by then!)

The (not-totally confirmed) lineup will be: Chuck Aronson, Big Daddy Blake, Eörs, Hollis P. Monroe, MG, and always present resident DJ Under.

Bring Good Friends, Blankets, a Picnic, Good Attitudes, Frisbees & Hackysacks - Don't worry about the Cost - Just Hang Free!

We're using the same location we've used in years past, Fairmount Park, Philadelphia - The field next to the West River Drive Veranda, near Fall's Bridge. Directions are (were) to the right.

We have a permit this time, but it does say that there is no Amplified Music permitted. So we'll see how long they let us play. (Don't worry - we have a new, different location for the next one - it'll be very private & we'll be 100% legal...)

Don't forget to check for updates right here at our new web site (Bookmark us now!) Keep checking back, because we'll also post pictures from each event, as well as audio samples (MP3's) from DJ sets, and more!

As a last minute reminder, this is a WEATHER-PERMITTING EVENT. Currently, the forecast calls for scattered rain from Sunday through Tuesday. If it's raining, we won't be having the event. If it rains that morning, we'll probably still won't have it (the grass will be wet & no fun to sit on...)

Check this web site on Monday, May 29th, 2000 for up-to-the-minute updates, or call Under's voicemail (on Monday) at 215-888-3069.

Feel free to tell your friends to sign up on the Hang Free Mailing list by entering thier name & email address on our web site!

Peace & see you Monday!

Chuck Aronson - Live at Hang Free

Directions: The Tea House is behind/next to Memorial Hall in Fairmount park. It's a quick jaunt off West River Drive, and also easy access from Route 76. Either look at the GIF Map. Or download the PDF Map [48k] to figure where it is.

Take 76 East to Montgomery Drive Exit (Exit 35), make a right off the ramp onto Montgomery Drive. Continue on Montgomery Drive to Horticultural Drive (First street on left before Belmont Avenue.) Make Left onto Horticultural Drive, drive through front gates on left, the Horticultural Building is on the right. Pass it, keeping on Horticultural Drive. You'll come to the Japanese Tea Garden.

Directions: It's a 4-mile hike from Center City, so we suggest you Blade or Bike. Go all the way down West River Drive past BOTH lights, and just before West River Drive makes the LAST turn (before Fells Bridge), we're on the left in the large grassy field. You may drive on Labor Day Monday, for the drive will be open to traffic.
