Many thanks to all the DJ's who spun for us last Labor Day; turns out our audio recordings of your awesome DJ sets were too overpowered and ended up unlistenable. Sorry, no downloads! We also posted 85 candid photos from the event, with lots of great portraits and crowd shots. See if you can find yourself in the photo gallery! (There's more to be added to that gallery, we just got another batch to be processed and added...)
Meanwhile, DJ Linda Leigh is planning the Memorial Day 2016 event, coming up in just over a month on Monday, May 30th, 2016. Sign up on our email list for first notifications, or simply bookmark this site for all our updates. See you in Fairmount Park this spring!

Thanks for your patience, folks, we had to quickly find a suitable nearby spot with parking for today's Hang Free. We've moved from our usual location to a lovely spot located on Cedar Grove Drive (Link to Google Map), which is still in Fairmount Park, behind the Please Touch Museum and Memorial Hall in West Philadelphia. There's a small lot for parking, and easy bike and walking access. Be aware that the roads around the Art Museum are closed, so plan ahead if you're driving out! We're up and running now, and expect to go until dark (around 7pm). Please join us on this lovely holiday Labor Day in Fairmount Park.

We're having an issue in that West River Drive (MLK Dr.) appears to be closed to vehicular traffic (we think due to yesterdays Made In America festival...), and we're trying to find answers as to when it'll be reopened. You can still ride your bike or walk, if you desire.
We will have to change locations due to our inability to drive our equipment to our usual spot! We'll update this site promptly when we know (It's 12:30pm now...)
Still, the weather looks like it's going to cooperate with us this year, with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-80's.
We've double-confirmed all of our DJ's and timeslots, and hope to present an eclectic soundtrack to while away your last day of summer! Don't forget that we'll be asking for donations to help cover the costs of this free event, we appreciate your support!

On Monday, September 7th - Labor Day, 2015, we'll be having our final Hang Free of the 2015 season. We expect to be up and running by 1pm on Monday, and going until 7pm. Directions to our location in Fairmount Park are at the right.
Hang Free is a free, bi-annual outdoor party that occurs in Fairmount Park in Philadelphia. We provide DJ's spinning music in an outdoor, casual atmosphere, where there is no cost to hang and listen. It should be a lovely day to enjoy Philadelphia's gorgeous public parks with friends and loved ones.
This Labor Day Monday our DJ guests include the brand-new Hang Free show-running duo of Linda Leigh and Dre Ovalle. Returning from his last visit here in 2007, DJ Wicket will grace us with another wicked d'n'b set. Long-time supporters and often-appearing Hang Free regulars Jack Tripper (nee Guy Smiley) and DJ Argo will also remind us why they're always welcome as sound-makers at Hang Free. Wrapping up our DJ sets this year is local legend Jeff Omega* from Bangarang who will close our lovely day in the park. We look forward to hearing this powerhouse lineup on this (hopefully) warm end-of-summer day.

Each Hang Free guarantees some sport & fun (such as touch football or frisbee or volleyball) with friends and soon-to-be friends. Over the years, we've become more pet-friendly and child friendly, offering play for all ages and a friendly welcoming crowd. Plus, you get an eclectic soundtrack to picnic your day away with Philadelphia's hippest DJ's and sound makers.
It's hard to say a week away, but the weather predicted for next Monday predicts a wonderful 90 degree early fall day, and a 7:25pm sunset. Seems like the many years of being rained out on Labor Day will come to an end in 2015! Please check this site on Monday for our noon announcement of event weather plans!

We've finally gotten around to posting the DJ Sets from our Memorial Day event. Special thanks to Lee Jones for spinning a double-long set and covering for DJ Dozia. The weather looks like it's going to cooperate with us this year, with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-80's.

On Monday, May 25th - Memorial Day, 2015, we'll be having our first Hang Free of the 2015 season. We expect to be up and running by noon on Monday, and going until dark (probably around 8pm). Directions to our location in Fairmount Park are at the right.
Hang Free is a free, bi-annual outdoor party that occurs in Fairmount Park in Philadelphia. We provide DJ's spinning music in an outdoor, casual atmosphere, where there is no cost to hang and listen. It should be a lovely day to enjoy Philadelphia's gorgeous public parks with friends and loved ones.
This Memorial Day Monday our DJ guests include the usual equipment-dragging resident, DJ Under along with longtime supporters DJ Linda Leigh spinning an extra-long tag-team set with her friend DJ D.R.E.O.. We'll also be joined by Chef DJ Jugo, whose day job as owner of the delightful NoLibs eatery Cafe Chimosa keeps him busy behind the stove. Also joining us is the legendary DJ Lee Jones, who has been DJing for longer than Hang Free has been around (BTW, it's 20 years for those not keeping count), and behind hundreds of events, including the long-running Sundae (11 years!). Wrapping up our day will be a another Philadelphia godfather and producer: DJ Dozia, who has releases on Ovum, Nou Lion, Ruffhouse, FixSix and Rocit Records, plus more residencies than you'd think possible. We look forward to hearing this powerhouse lineup on this (hopefully) warm spring day.
